Turkey 911!
Turkey roasting can be intimidating, but don’t let it scare you away from creating a delicious meal! Here are some tips to help you when baking the bird:
Prepare the Turkey first by removing the giblets (don’t throw those out- they can be used for stuffing or gravy!). Clean the turkey with water and pat dry with paper towels.
Several tips for a delicious and savory turkey:
You’ll want to brush the turkey skin with melted butter or oil-mmmm crispy skin! You can add even more flavor by brushing butter underneath the skin, onto the meat itself. You can also brine the whole turkey overnight for even savory-ness. Make an herb rub with your favorite spices.
Stick a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh. Make sure the thermometer doesn’t touch the bone!
Now, time to Roast:
Put your turkey on a roasting pan into a preheated oven at 350 degrees. Once the turkey is a light golden color, cover loosely with a foil tent. Remove the tent for the last forty-five minutes to brown the skin. You can baste the turkey to help it brown evenly. Here is a helpful diagram for turkey-roasting times:
That’s it! I am already getting hungry just typing this blog entry…
