This blog entry is very important for those of you with bare walls and no money to spend. No one likes boring white walls! That is why trims such as: base molding (along the bottom most part of the floor), case molding (decorative, usually mends the molding along the walls and floor together) and paneling (also decorative, can be used to frame certain objects or just be used as an art piece itself) are the epitome of a little decorating goes a long way! These effects generally go unnoticed however, they truly tie up and create a cozier more completed feel in one’s home. Now we know installing moldings and panels can be expensive, or look cheap when they are not done correctly, that is why we are going to teach you how to create your own decorative moldings using no more than a stencil (will be provided to print out tomorrow), stencil brush, latex flat paint, blue tape, exacto knife, denril vellum and a level ruler!
Step 1: Cut out the stencil with you exacto knife. Then tape it down with you blue tape. Lightly trace all your corners of the stencil with a pencil-planning where you want your panels to be. In order to keep the stencil outline straight, use the help of the level.
Step 2: Dip the tip of your brush lightly into the paint. Put your first stroke on the background of the stencil to get off any excess paint. Then tap the brush along the stencil marks covering the whole unpainted wall area. Don’t paint it in strokes otherwise the paint will bleed under the stencil!
Step 3: Slowly pull the stencil off the wall so you don’t rip the paper!
Step 4: Once all your corners are done and dry, connect all of them with the blue tape leaving the same space in between to be painted.
Voila! You have your very own moldings! TOMORROW WE WILL POST YOUR VERY OWN STENCIL THAT YOU CAN PRINT AND USE FOR YOUR OWN WALLS!
