Love At First Sight

This month’s Edition of New York Cottages and Gardens features a NYC love story featuring our very own Guillaume Gentet! Set in Union Square in what was once a bobbin factory, new owners Rita Veygman and her husband adored the space’s potential, but didn’t know quite how to fill (and renovate!) it.

Enter Guillaume Gentet. Meeting a mutual friend’s housewarming party to celebrate the redesign by Guillaume, Rita knew she found the designer she wanted to bring light and life into her new apartment loft.

Rita and Guillaume clicked immediately, and were able to collaborate on the renovations that were not only practical and functional, but also unique and very stylish. A mix of eclectic NYC-downtown and sophisticated European flair, the space feels not only livable, but loveable as well.

However, like any good romance, there were some obstacles to overcome: the building next door was demolished to allow for the construction of the New School campus- halting the renovations for eight months and causing quite a few headaches! Once the building settled, Guillaume went to work in full swing to complete the project, designing a beautiful custom Kyle-Bunting rug, handmade eglomise wall piece, and the magnificent two-story closet in the Master bathroom!

What was once a stark loft space has been transformed into an elegant living space, with lots of hidden storage, functional furniture pieces, and beloved artworks and accents. Perhaps Rita says it best: “At first it was very empty, and we lived here with basically nothing. And then I met Guillaume.”
Here’s to happy endings!
